Kay and Leo is an original work. Behind every book there are months of writing, illustration, pedagogical review and adaptation into Spanish. This page explains what is ours, what you can do with it and what you cannot.

1. What is protected

Luminary Global Media LLC holds all intellectual and industrial property rights over the Kay and Leo / Kay y Leo series, in all its languages and formats. This includes, without limitation:

The books, in English and Spanish, in any edition (print, digital, audiobook or any future one): their text, structure and layout.
The characters: Kay, Leo, Buó, Enzo, Hani, Ania, Luna, Elio and Cris, including their names, visual design, character traits, voices and relationships.
The illustrations, covers, model sheets, settings and recurring objects of the series, such as the acorn jar.
The series' signature phrases, among them «Un poquito hoy, mucho mañana» / «A little today, a lot tomorrow» and «Lo que no enseñan en la escuela» / «What they don't teach at school».
The distinctive signs: the names Kay and Leo and Kay y Leo, their logos and their graphic identity, regardless of their registration status in each territory.
The website www.kayandleo.com: design, texts, code, photographs and downloadable materials.
The audiovisual content (videos, reels, animations) and audio published by the brand on any channel.

The illustrations and other creative contributions of external collaborators were made under contracts that assign the corresponding exploitation rights to Luminary Global Media LLC.

2. What you can do

We want Kay and Leo to reach many families and classrooms. So, without needing to ask permission, you can:

Read the books aloud at home, in class, in a library or at a non-profit storytelling session.
Share links to our website, our shop or the books' pages on external retailers.
Publish reviews and opinions, on your blog or on social media, with photographs of the books and brief quotes from the text, always citing the source.
Quote brief excerpts for educational, analytical or critical purposes, indicating the title and authorship, within the limits established by intellectual-property law.
Print and use the downloadable materials from the website for personal, family or own-classroom use, under the conditions of section 4.
Create fan art or crafts inspired by the characters for your own enjoyment and share them non-commercially, indicating that Kay and Leo is a brand of Luminary Global Media LLC.

3. What you cannot do without our written authorization

Reproduce, scan, photocopy or distribute complete books or substantial parts of them, in any format, including publishing PDFs or full readings in video or audio.
Create derivative works: translations, adaptations, sequels, new stories, comics, videos, apps, games, audiobooks or animations based on the series or its characters.
Use the characters, names, phrases or illustrations in products or services (merchandising, clothing, toys, courses, paid workshops, commercial educational materials).
Use the brand or the characters in a way that suggests a relationship, sponsorship or endorsement by us that does not exist.
Resell, sublicense or upload to other platforms the downloadable materials, or remove their attribution notices or watermarks.
Use any content of the series or the website to train, fine-tune or feed artificial-intelligence systems or automatic content generation. We expressly object to text and data mining for these purposes, under article 4.3 of Directive (EU) 2019/790.
Register as a trademark, domain name or social media username any sign identical or confusingly similar to Kay and Leo or its characters.

4. License for the downloadable materials

The free materials we offer on the website (activities, coloring pages, worksheets, family guides) are delivered under a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license with these conditions:

You may print them as many times as you need for your family or for the students of your own class.
You may not sell them, include them in paid products, distribute them on other websites or platforms, or modify them to present them as your own.
You must keep the attribution and brand notices that appear in each file.
The materials are designed for children aged 4 to 9 under adult supervision.

If you run a school, a library, an association or a network of schools and want to use the materials at a larger scale, write to us: we offer specific conditions for institutional use.

5. Commercial licenses and collaborations

If you want to translate a book into another language, adapt the series to another format, produce merchandising, organize paid activities with the characters or use Kay and Leo in your product or service, you need a license. Write to contact@luminaryglobalmedia.com stating what you want to do, in which territory and with what scope, and we will reply.

6. Unsolicited ideas and proposals

We love receiving messages from readers and educators. However, we do not accept unsolicited ideas, manuscripts, characters, titles or plots for the series. If you send them anyway, you understand that there is no obligation of confidentiality or compensation, and that Kay and Leo may develop similar content independently without this creating any right in your favor.

7. Third-party content

Some elements of the website (typefaces, stock photographs, music in the videos, software tools) belong to third parties and are used under license. Those elements remain the property of their owners and are not covered by the authorizations on this page.

8. How to report an infringement

If you believe that any content on www.kayandleo.com or our channels infringes your rights, or if you detect an unauthorized use of Kay and Leo, write to contact@luminaryglobalmedia.com with:

Your name, company (if applicable) and contact details.
Identification of the work or right you consider infringed.
The exact location of the content (URL, screenshot or description).
A good-faith statement that the use is not authorized.
If you act on behalf of a third party, proof of your authority to represent them.

We handle these notices in accordance with the Spanish Intellectual Property Law, Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on Digital Services and, where applicable, the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

9. Reservation of rights

Any use not expressly authorized on this page is reserved. We reserve the right to take whatever legal action is appropriate to protect the series, its characters and the people who work on it.
