Reading together

The story does almost all the work. This is the little that is left:

• Let the sounds lead: the clinks and the PLEASEs are meant to be read aloud and, if the mood strikes, shouted a little.
• If your child interrupts, let them: interrupting a story is living inside it.
• Do not explain the lesson. If the story worked, the lesson already traveled on its own.
• Rereading is not repeating: the fifth time is a different story, because the listener now knows when the good part comes.
• At the end, any question beats a summary. Kay's favorite: “wow… or worth it?”.
